But can I run for a charity in this race?

You can run for a charity for any race. You can even get your own persnoal donation on line page via Active.com Giving. I am not with this race, so you might want to contact them directly at the email address...but I have run for charity on my own for a race, and it is a great, powerful thing to do. Helps during training to know that you are running for something good - in addition to your own health.
