If you pull a muscle what is the best and quickest way to help get rid of the pain?

Rest it, ice it (10 mins on, 10 mins off), compress it (tubigrip or similar), elevate it. Frequently called RICE treatment. do NOT stretch a pulled muscle, only start stretching it after it is comfortable again. When you start back exercising on it again, go gently, and make sure you always warm up and cool down properly.

A good fill of Omega-3's in the diet has an anti-inlammatory effect too, without the nasty side effects you can get from Ibuprofen and such like.

That's great thank you, so you're not supposed to move it and walk on it like normal?  I've always been told that

Sorry Helen, I meant rest from exercise Embarassed. We still have to move about like normal, dinner doesn't make itself, our boss won't give us paid leave for a pulled muscle....  Thing is to just be aware of it and don't do anything that puts it under strain (for example if its a hamstring, make sure when you bend down to pick up the car keys you just dropped you crouch to pick them up, rather than bending from the waist like we usually tend to do). Gentle movement is always good and will help rehabilitate the injury, but in the first couple of days, there should definitely be more emphasis on rest to allow the body to get on with the repair job it has to do.
