Can some one please help and offer advice, i have had a recurring problem with my left achilles for several months. yesterday at 6 miles i was unable to run properly, and ended up limping home. I Applied Ice and rested it for the rest of the day. Last night i wioke up in extreme pain( never had that before) and limped to take Ibuprofen, which helped me get some sleep.
This morning i am still in a lot of pain .. the Marathon is now less than 5 weeks away. what do you think my chances are of being ok to take part.
Please any help gratefully received.
Have you considered a sports massage, they will be able to tell you how bad it is too or whether or not you just need a few massages to loosen it. I was amazed by the difference it made when i had one a couple of weeks ago.

Hi,
i saw the GP today who advised i rest and gave me some stretching exercises to do, i've also rang the nhs physio line who are going to offer advice. I will look into having a sports massage. Thanks
Hi- I had same problem and went to a Physio. He showed me some stretching exercises hanging my heels off a step and holding for 15 seconds, then doing the same with bent knees and repeating these 2 exercises 3 x times. this had to be done daily.
I was also advised to perform calf raises on a step and lower my heels below the step on downward movement (so heels hang off again). The top and bottom part of the movement should be held for a few seconds. 15 reps, 3 x sets.
Found now that the only time I get niggles is if I increase distance by more than 10% per week. But saying that, I am only running 8miles at the moment and have only been runnig since Christmas. Good luck, hope it gets sorted.
Thank you for that advice I have the same problem with my left tendon..will try those exercises.
thanks again
Jane
