Tissue damage

I twisted my ankle about 7 years ago now. It's been looked at and I was told it was permanent tissue damage. Didn't think much of it at the time but then a few years back I started trying to get in shape again and I was jogging a little bit every few days. As I increased the time I started to notice this burning ache sensation in my ankle  that lasted for a few hours afterwards and it worried me so much I haven't jogged since.

Basically I'm just wondering if I should steer clear of running and jogging if such short bursts were affecting me like that, and if so are there any other cardio exercises I can do that won't do any further damage?

See how you get on with cycling or swimming, or if you're in a gym the cross trainer and rowing machine might well be worth a go.

I'm guessing that when you turned that ankle you never bothered with your physio? If it gives you trouble, do go and see one, they may well be able to provide you with a suitable plan for stretching and strengthening to get you and keep you up and running.

Good luck Smile.

Thanks for the alternatives :) I'll definitely have to look into physio - it'd be great to widen my exercise options!

Well I was living with my parents at the time and even though my ankle was about 3 times its usual size they said I didn't need to go to the doctor's and I should just walk it off. After a month or so when it still looked a bit wrong I ended up getting an x-ray done and that's when I was told about the tissue damage - I could kick myself for not just going to the doctor's myself in the first place!

Yep, parents always THINK they know best.

When I was a kid I broke my foot jumping over some cobbles and not quite making the leap - only found that out after my dad had made me walk miles on it Yell.

Someone else I know has a mum who once thought feeding her dad copious amounts of all-bran cereal would be the best cure when he was stricken with diarrhoea YellLaughingSurprised.

I'm sure this community muust have plenty of amusing anecdotes about why we should never listen to our parents? Go on, give us a giggle....
