What have people given up for Lent, and how is it going so far?

Taking on stupid ideas of like running a marathon! So far, I'm still sticking to my guns that after this one that will be it and will only do 10k or half marathons instead!
I did think about chocolate, but that would be just pure hell for me as I deserve my chocolate treats after doing my long runs, lol!
Hey-ho here I go

I'm giving up milk choc. My intake isn't too shocking, but it's my biggest weakness in a generally very healthy diet.

I'm giving up lent
I never normally bother, but my wedding is incentive to behave as well as possible :-S I'm not necessarily trying to lose weight, but I do want to look and feel my best!

I haven't given up anything for lent, but decided to give up chocolate and crisps for 2012. Moment of insanity perhaps...
I didn't realise at the time that Kit-Kat were going to start selling Peanut Butter Kit-Kat Chunky's - so annoyed! I'm now collecting them (1 bar a week) - I expect an unhealthy start to 2013!
Lisa

Too much to give up in 1 go by just cutting out 'sugar', you'd have been better giving up milk chocolate and biscuits or something similarly realistic!!
I really liked the white choc kitkat chunky and I've always liked orange kitkats. The peanut butter one was just a bit too weird!!

I've given up bread and alcohol - not massively hard to do, but figured I'd be a bit healthier for it.
I wasn't too impressed with the peanut butter kitkat either - need to try the other new ones.

I gave up alcohol and men, which sounds a bit unusual written down! I'm quite enjoying being alcohol-free, think it will be good for my health and finances too!

Gone Fishin is right -giving up sugar in general is too much of a challenge and you're setting yourself up for a fail! I've always liked the peanut butter kit kat chunkies; I can remember when they came out while I was in school, about 5 years ago- I couldn't wait to buy my 1st one!

I don't know, I completely gave up sugar all at once and it was tough at first but it gets easier! You don't really miss it at all after a while.

Really? Good for you! I am an addict... although I'm not fussed on salty/fatty things or fizzy drinks so it's my only vice

By 'Sugar' I'm assuming just the refined stuff? I personally wouldn't give up specific things unless I had to (allergies, health etc), my personality just doesn't let me do that. I can allow everything and eat very healthily and not be bothered by junk, or I can not allow things and binge. Reverse psychology or something going on there. The milk chocolate bar ban is going OK so far though.

I think I'm like you, i can't give up something or i'll end up having twice as much as i normally would. I tend to take things up during lent, or when i'm having a health kick.
When I was younger, I often tried to give things up. It was a battle, which I invariably lost, and yet those experiences were valuable, because of the understanding I gained from them. Ultimately the understanding is what you need to just drop things which are holding you back, without any effort. But the effort was needed at first.

That's a good idea - I always end up wanting what I've given up more than I would have done if I hadn't, so never bother any more. I like the idea of taking something new up - what have you done for it?

I think taking things up instead is a good idea. Have you taken up anything this year?

I just started eating pure sugar, just bought a candy floss maker for about £20. 1 teaspoon of sugar and voila. It's pretty awesome.
