Commuting stress

A new study has said that commuters can experience greater stress than riot policeman or fighter pilots. What do you think of this? My commute used to be stressful, but isn't too bad now.

I can walk to my current job, but at my old one I had to go on quite a long bus journey. I enjoyed it as some time to myself to listen to music and relax, although it'd probably be very different if I was driving myself.

Set off in plenty of time, nothing to stress about. Simples Smile!

I am about four miles from the office so as much as I can I try to walk/run there (not so easy when its cold!) - think that is the nicest way. Running is probably quicker than getting the bus, and of course its free!

I used to get the bus to work, it generally wasn't too bad and I read loads on the way to and from work. Although when it was late and/or rammed it was annoying and at times a little stressful.

I enjoy using the time on the bus to relax and read, but I agree, when it gets packed with Christmas shoppers I think I would rather walk!

I thought I didn't mind my communte - up to 90min driving each way - but when I gave up that job I realise the negative effect that commuting had on me.  It wasn't the driving that was the problem as I tended to leave before rush hour in the morning and return after rush hour in the evening, but it was wasted time.  I couldn't relax as I needed to concetrate on the road so tended to spend the time worrying over problems at work.  Some problem solving time is good, but when you have more time than you need and can't actually be getting on with putting things right then it becomes time where you endlessly turn things over in your head.  Inevitably some of those thoughts are not productive and only make you more stressed and unhappy with your lot.
