Eat and drink less, exercise more - same old same old. How many chocolates has everyone got left?

Posted 29.12.11, 10:29am

My New Year's resolutions are to give up/cut down on alcohol and stop worrying as I am a natural worrier. Not sure how I'll do with them.

Exercise is perfect, food is sorted for me, drink is fine too Money mouth

I intend to keep things going along, see if I can reach 12 stone this year, and get plenty of relaxing in Cool

I like that, I'm going to keep it in mind Laughing

My New Year's resolution is to worry and over-think less. And of course, go to the gym more.

There was a guy on the news today who is called the "happiest man on earth". He followed a type of meditation that helped him worry less and live in the present

I NEED to learn this meditation. Do you think meditation works, then?

Yes, 100% I think it helps you mentally and physically (not that I do it which is rubbish, but it's on my list). Apparently they've even done brain scans of the participants and they show "happier" brains. Here's the article:

That's really interesting. I always want to change the way I do things and my perceptions but I just carry on making the same mistakes!

I'm not a big believer in meditation, but I guess I'd give it a go - would be nice if it could help me worry less, I'm a bit of a stress head!

I plan to train hard, work hard and enjoy myself in everything I do. I have also pledged to be better at keeping in touch with friends as I am rubbish at it!

Staying in touch with friends is a good one pedal1. I think i might adopt yours if that's okay

Way too much chocolate left! It's rude to say please buy me nothing rather than chocolate but I really should say it! haha

Resolutions:

  • To explore London more often
  • Be more consistant with the things I choose to do

I like this too! I've still got a load of new things I'd like to do too though Smile

I'm a worrier of the panic and anxiety type and recommend kundalini yoga, if you can stick out the meditation and mantra side of it long enough to overcome your embarassment you'll begin to feel the benefits. It helps a lot.

And yes, meditation does help. It allows your brain to relax and unwind and gives it a break. You feel much better afterwards and can think more rationally.

I haven't really made any resolutions this year, although I don't usually stick to them either!

I decided to listen to my body more -not just do things out of habit.

Well I made a resolution maybe about 2pm on New Year's Day, to lay off the chocolate. When I do my food shop I often buy a bar of chocolate, but about that time, I was walking back home from the supemarket and realised that I had not done so. First I thought, perhaps I'll go into a newsagents and get a bar of chocolate, and then I thought, maybe I won't.  And I didn't and so far this year have not had any chocolate - Go-Ahead fruit cake bars and plain fruit instead. Can be difficult at work, there is a vending machine on my floor (the fourth floor and in fact the top), and to get fruit I would need to go all the way down to the canteen on the ground floor, the solution to that is to bring fruit into the office. Its my birthday next week so I may fall off the wagon there, but if so I will get back on afterwards

You're doing really well. Chocolate is my vice and I can often give it up for 2 maybe 3 weeks, but i always fall back to it. Have you found it difficult?

Bonus!

Not just delicious fruit but a precious few minutes out of the chair and being active to go and get it! Long term health - sorted Cool.
