Hair, nail and skin supplement

I bought some hair, nails and skin tablets from Holland & Barrett at the weekend (my nails constantly break so thought they might help). Has anyone tried them before?

I'd love to hear if these work, I always think about trying them but am never sure if they're just a gimmick. Are they just vitamins, or do they have other stuff in them specifically for hair, skin and nails?

I looked at the Perfectil range for hair, skin and nails but they are a bit expensive for me, the "platinum" ones are like £24!

Not sure tbh - I'll have to have a look when I get home. I like the idea of my nails getting stronger, but it's £7 for 60 tablets, which you have to take 3 times a day, so once I've finished the pack I probably won't keep it up - unless I can really see the results. How many are in the 'platinum' range?

£24! That's pretty steep, the most expensive thing I have bought/ beauty products etc was clarins flash balm. But it is brilliant.

Clarins in general is so nice!

How long do you think it takes before you notice any difference from taking supplements?

There's 30 I think in the platinum range, so not so many.

I actually spend ridiculous amounts on beauty products (bought a mascara for £35 the other day) so I don't know why I object to spending it on supplements, I think just I'm always dubious whether they're actually going to work!

You probably wouldn't notice much difference in your hair for quite a while because it would only be the new hair growth which is affected, and the average person's hair only grows 1/2 an inch a month, but I'd imagine you'd see difference in your skin pretty quick!

I have always had a problem with my skin (mild acne) Im 28 and it has improved with diet and a more consistant use of skincare products etc. so have started to see a slow improvement over the last year.

I have just started to take a bio zinc which is meant to help the scars heal quicker and recduce redness. I have been taking them for a week. I'll keep you posted as to wether they work!

As far as hair and nails go, mine are fine, but i have heard of people using silica (particularly for hair) with great results.

I suffer from eczema and have found that certain foods make it worse so through diet I have managed to control it. I.e. I try to limit my alcohol and sugar intake. Anyone else have ezema?

Yeah, I get it, but only occasionally - I didn't realise that your diet could affect it though. Is there anything else you've cut out?

helen_g, I've always had problems with my skin too which have improved with diet, would be interested to hear how you get on with bio zinc. The best thing that I found for reducing red marks was a manuka honey cream from New Zealand I bought online, it's great because it's antibacterial so helps get rid of new spots at the same time as reducing scars.

I am looking for a supplement to improve my dry skin and eczema. Any suggestions?

No my friend. You should take a proper diet instead of going for supplements. Legumes and nuts are best for it
