Hi all. After many unsuccessful attempts on priceline.com to land an affordable Manhattan hotel for marathon eve, I've finally figured out a plan that I'm happy with.
Here's my route to athletes village for my first NYC Marathon and second marathon overall. Would love to hear how everyone else has planned his/her route to the start if you care to share.
I found a Candlewood Suites in Jersey City, NJ for $189 + tax booking directlly through the hotel chain. Parking is free. Candlewood Suites received mostly good reviews on tripadvisor.
From the hotel, it's a short 4 to 5 minute walk to Exchange Place station for the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) train, hence the title of this thread. It's just a 4 minute PATH train ride to the World Trade Center station. From there it is a few short blocks walk to the 1 train (subway) Chambers St station, and a 4 minute subway ride to the South Ferry station to pick up the 7 am Staten Island Ferry. So all in all, two 4 minute trains and two 4 to 5 minute walks.

Sounds like a good plan. I'm doing something sort of similar from the
other direction...I'm staying at at Days Inn in Brooklyn.
Sun morning I'm catching the R subway at 36thSt/4thAve in Brooklyn
to the South Ferry Terminal in Manhattan. I'm scheduled for the 8am
SI ferry.
According to the subway schedule, it will take about 20 min.

The ferry is a good option. I ran NY last year, and I know that they were really encouraging people to take the ferry if they did not already have plans in place.
We will figure out a place to meet on Staten Island - so that the team members who want to can hang out together during those long hours before the race starts.
we have a wide variety of running paces - and no doubt you will line up with your own pace group, but it would be nice to be with other team members in the AM. We'll keep you posted on that and othe details as we get close to race day!

I will be staying at my aunts house in Staten Island and hoping to find a way to get across to the island to the start line - but having a meeting location int he island would be great
