Morning Energy

Hi

I've dabbled in running in the past, and have recently started doing a bit of running again (although not a massive amount, around the 4-5 mile mark)

Anyway, to give myself what i hope to be a challenging but realistic target I have signed up for the Reading Half Marathon, and started looking at clubs and training schedules etc.

However in the past I have always run late in the day (typically around 9 at night, so home from work, dinner, let it settle and out) as I tend not to have bundles of energy first thing.

With the various training runs i'll be doing, and a desire to have something of my life, it would be a lot easier for 1 or 2 of the runs to be first thing in the morning before work.

Does anyone have any hints or tips on boosting energy early in the day? Is it just a case of bowl of porridge or similar, give it 15 mins and go?

Thanks in advance and apologies for rambling - could've written that in about 2 line...

Goodnight sleep really helps, plenty of water the night before also!

Yeah I agree that hydration makes you feel more alert. If I don't drink any water in the morning then I find myself making silly mistakes, like putting the cereal box in the fridge and the milk in the cupboard...!!

It's best to try and do your runs as close to the time your race starts at so if your half marathon is in the morning then it would be better to run in the morning.

I run twice a day and always feel it easier to do my 2nd run in the evening. But for my morning run I give myself at least 45 mins from my alarm waking me up til the time I leave the house. During that time I have a shower, a little water and a good stretch. In the winter I'll have a cup of tea or coffee but I do that as soon as I wake up. If you are going to eat solids then make sure it is very little and I would advise (at the very least) a 30 minute window period before you leave the house if you do eat.

When in the shower I take the shower head and run it up and down my legs for a few minutes on each leg. This helps get the blood flowing when you start your run. *NOTE* This isn't an alternative to stretching and warming up. Stretching and warming up is vital esprcially in the morning and must be done........remember....Prevention is better than cure.

Good luck,

Deek.
