Today I’m going to start planning some healthy meals – any healthy breakfast suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I buy flavoured porridge, I eat my breakfast in work so the little pots you add water to are great.  I think it's cheaper to buy the plain porridge and grab a handful of dried bits of fruit to add to it.  They're healthy and filling so stop you snacking mid morning :)

They're great little pots - the syrup one's really good and smells ace!

The classic Weetabix is good for you. xxx

Perfect time of the year for fruit, it's not really sunny at the moment but fruit is really refreshing in this muggy weather. Strawberries and melon, yogurt, smoothies, nuts and eggs are my favourite breakfast foods at the moment.

I do love the classic Weetabix - I had that with blueberries this morning!

I can't eat Weetabix -it gives me tummy ache! So I have Oatibix instead. HOWEVER... They have now started putting wheat into it!? What's the point in that? I like Dorset Cereals at the moment for breakfast, with fresh blueberries on top :-)

Weetabix was a staple breakfast for me as a child, loaded with spoonfuls of sugar! Probably a good thing they don't really agree with now, they wouldn't taste the same with just fruit! I did try oatibix a while ago when my OH went through a phase of buying it, but as with most cereals it doesn't fill me up enough.

It takes an inhuman amount of cereal to fill my stomach though, most of them barely touch the sides. 1 box of regular-sized cereal would probably make me 4 portions Embarassed

Cereal is just a load of air anyway! I'm just the same: those hotel-sized individual cereal boxes would probably fill me for, ooh, ten minutes? I'd much prefer some porridge, eggs or some protein.

Thanks for all the ideas Smile

I had some blueberries and strawberries with natural yogurt this morning - it was really good and pretty filling!

I love fruit and yoghurt for breakfast, it's nice with some oats and honey in too.

Mango and strawberry smoothies are great with oats

They sound lovely! Do you put yoghurt or fruit juice or anything in, or just the fruit and oats?

Mmm this sounds such a refreshing breakfast and easy to transport to work

I make those too, but I don't put in any fruit juice. The fruit is enough and that way I know there's no bad stuff going in.

Did a little blog post about Spanish ommelettes for breakfast.

I've been eating those Belvita breakfast biscuits which are YUMMY! unfortunately the packaging makes them look a little healthier than they actually are... they're very high in sugar. I knew they tasted too good to be healthy! With a piece of fruit and a cup of tea in the morning though, it can't be too bad.

Is granola a good cereal to have in the morning - or is it another one that's high in sugar?

Posted 17.07.12, 9:15am

It's quite high in fat and sugar. They use honey and sugar to sweeten it and help it clump into chunky pieces and it's generally baked using some oil too. I do quite like granola though, I love the crunchy texture and how it doesn't go pappy when you add milk. I bulk it up with crushed nuts and a bit of luxury dried fruit mix, it keeps me full for hours so I like it if I won't be guaranteed a reasonable lunch!
