Is it Ok to wear my iPod during the race?

Yes! You can definitely wear your iPod/Mp3 player on race day. We also have Entertainment Centres along the course to pump you up in case you don't run with music!
That is great news! So is it strictly an U.S. thing that makes it illegal?
Yes. It's only a USATF rule. Real runners don't run with iPods, though.
I think the trend is generally to ban or discourage the use of iPods and similar music players for races. It's a question of safety, especially if it's a crowded run. For that matter, why would you want to be "deaf" to the sounds all around you? When you are on a training run, iPods are usually fine (chacun à son goût)...but why not give it a break on race day?
All I know is that I will be running a lot of Canadian races henceforth, because I really love running with my music.
