Which is the most difficult olympic event?

Posted 08.08.08, 1:25pm

Anyone like to guess how many medals England are going to get in the Olympics?

None because England don't compete in the Olympics

Synchronised diving must be pretty difficult - having to time yourselves perfectly together!

Gymnastics has to be well up there - doing all the jumps and flips on the balance beam looks scary!

Yeah, think I'd vote for gymnastics! You definitely need a lot of skill to do that well.

Got to be the diving surely, especially the pairs. Jumping from that heights with the twists and somersaults. Tough.

Great to watch - diving and gymnastics are my favourate's to watch.

Very tough - looking forward to watching Tom Daley! Favourite's are the diving and the finals of swimming and 100m run -great stuff!

Decathlon would surely have to be the most testing. Ten events over just 2 days has to be the ultimate test for any athlete. For most decathletes, just to get there without carrying a major injury is usually achievement enough.

Technically I'd imagine gynastics to be on of the most difficult. All those years of training and you have to get everything almost perfect. At least in other events there is a chance if you are not technically perfect e.g a sprinter making an unspectacular start still has a chance to haul themselves back into a race whereas in gymnastics it's generally one false move and your hopes are ended.

Running's got to be pretty up there too - I was watching the The World Championships when Dwain Chambers got disqualified for his false start which came from a twitch on the blocks - pretty brutal!

Most difficult? Well, it depends on what you are good at. A swimmer doing Javelin?

Maybe you just invented a new event - underwater javelin!!

Underwater javelin... sounds quite interesting!!

Why thank you, probably a bit late to get in into 2012, but maybe I can get it as an event for 2016 Cool

I was just looking at some of the Olympic sports and there's one called 'Luge' - I've never even heard the word before!

Underwater javelin? Sounds like some kind of underwater hunt

I was under the impression the luge was only at the winter olympics? It's the one where they lie on a tiny sled and shoot down a course at ridiculous speeds I think.

Didn't someone die it that a couple of years ago? Frown Looks like a pretty terrifying event, they get some serious velocity on the way down.
