Going to the Domican in the summer t the resort of Punta Cana. Anyone been before and got any tips or suggestions for day trips to take?
Do or do not - there is no try!
You'll probably need a few jabs/tablets - hepatitis, malaria, tetanus - just in case. I think your local surgery can arrange it for about £20.

I wouldn't expect you'd step foot outside of the resorts. Most of those are guarded by armed guards and not many people venture outside other than on the organized trips.
Here, there and everywhere!
Yeah, most people I know who've done all inclusives over there have stayed in the resort - I heard it's pretty dangerous to go outside of them.

Definite option would be some Miami vice linen trousers - it's pretty hot out there

I did hear they are pretty fussy and won't let you in many of the restaurants without full length trousers. Shorts are generally a no-no and it would be far too hot to wear jeans.

Does that go for women too?? Are skirts allowed? Definitely wouldn't go anywhere I had to wear full length trousers!

I've never heard of skirts not being allowed..?
Good news, I won't cross it off my potential travel list just yet then, although it does sound a little scary with all the talk of jabs and armed guards!!

I think it's the same in many of these compound style resorts. There's such poverty outside the resorts that it just not safe to step outside as tourist other than on an organised trip. Parts of Mexico are pretty much the same.

To be fair, when you are on holiday trying to relax, the last thing you want to be reminded of is poverty and deprivation. I think that's one reason I've never fancied going to India.

Hmm not sure I'd like that, think I will stick to the less adventurous but safer resorts!

Most of them are safe, you just have to make sure you don't wander off. Doesn't matter where you are in the world - tourists stand out like a sore thumb and are easy targets. You just have to minimise the risk by avoiding certain areas.

Exactly two months to go and then I'm off to the Dom Rep. Need to get these jabs sorted because the surgery keep canceliing the appointment on me.
Do or do not - there is no try!
Finally got round to having the necessary injections. One in each arm! epatitis A, diptheria and and few other things were included in the jabs. Makes you wonder that if you need all these injections then maybe you shouldn't be going there in the first place. I'll be starting a course of anti-malaria tablets about ten days before I go too.

Ugh malaria meds are the pits.

I haven't started on the malaria tablets yet. I'm due to start taking them 10 days before travelling. Are there some side effects I should beware of then or do they just taste rank?

This is probably useless to you now but mine made me sick the first couple of times, was rubbish because I took them prior to going to South Africa but then when we arrived we had to move to place that wasn't a malaria risk area meaning that I'd been ill and wasted a huge lump of cash for nothing!
