Happiest state?

Apparently Hawaii is the happiest state in America to live, and West Virginia is the worst. What do you think? And do you think where you live makes a huge difference to your happiness?

I can see why - Hawaii looks lush - I can't imagine anyone could be sad living there!

I'd be ridiculously happy if I lived in Hawaii! I think where you live can definitely effect your happiness - if you live somewhere horrible, you're bound to be effected by it.

Yeah, I think I'd be pretty happy if I lived in Hawaii, looks amazing!! I wonder what's wrong with West Virgina?

I think I'd be grinning from ear to ear if I lived in Hawaii - I have only been once but loved it. Yeah there are the tacky bits but I loved it.

I've never been to Hawaii sadly, all the images I have of it are from TV and films like 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall'! Would love to go one day!

I love Forgetting Sarah Marshall - great film!

Hawaii would be amazing - it looks lush! It'd be ace to learn to Hula

I know, would love to give Hula dancing a go! Actually saw a Hula workout DVD which teaches you how to do it, but not sure it would be the same Hula dancing in my bedroom in the UK!

I wonder where the happiest county in the UK would be...Cornwall Smile

I've never been to Cornwall - although I always hear good things. Is it worth a trip then?

What have they all got to be happy about? Are they all retired?

Posted 03.04.11, 8:20pm

Powys.. so where's the happiest place in England then?

Posted 04.04.11, 4:01pm

Going on the pictures on the website for that link, they may well all be retired!

Well, according to the same source Manchester came second in the list of happiest place in Britain, so I guess that would make it the happiest place in England? Wonder why?

Also, according to this the happiest places in England are predominantly in the North - with Sutton being one of the very few places down South to rank as a "happy place"!

I really like Manchester, but I don't think I'd have placed it up there as the happiest place in England...

Posted 06.04.11, 5:58pm

I wouldn't have guessed that, wonder what makes them so happy in Manchester? I like Manchester but wouldn't have thought it's that much different from other cities? I thought it would be some countrified or beachy place for some reason!

We have higher expectations of life down south dont like it when things dont go our way

Is that not a bit of a sweeping generalisation? Smile I don't like it when things don't go my way either though, maybe I should think about moving further south!

It is a generalisation but it's a fair one. Trying to come up with the happiest place at all is a generalisation en masse. No people in the south have higher expectations of life and are thus in general grumpier when they don't get their way.
