I have my three books for holiday now...

Swimsuit - James Patterson

The Snowman - Jo Nesbo

Eclipse - Stephanie Meyer

That should keep me quiet for a week or so!

Eclipse was really good- I'm reading the last Twighlight book at the moment! Haven't heard of the other ones though?! Keep us updated on if they're worth a read! Smile

Quite a few times I've been on holiday the hotel will have a place where people can leave books when they've finished with them and other holidaymakers can borrow them. I've picked up a few surprisingly good books via this method.

I picked up a great book like that but I have forgotten the title and as I was travelling I had to leave it at another book exchange later on. All I remember it was red and set in China!

I have the third Larson one planned for my next holiday - it's a beast of a book, but I will probably whip through it.

I'm reading a Sophie Kinsella book at the mo called 'Can you keep a secret'- it's pretty la de dah- definitely a holiday read.

Has anyone used an iPad or one of those e-book readers to read books while on holiday? Are you actually able to view them while out in daylight. If it's anything like trying to view my mobile, you'd be pretty stuffed.

I haven't got one but I've heard they are pretty good outdoors in the sun. You would imagine a lot of people would use them outdoors, especially on holiday so if they weren't up to the job that would be a pretty big design fault and drawback.

The new Amazon Kindles have an excellent screen and can be viewed in sunlight. They are also very easy to read, as they aren't backlit. It's very close to a newspaper, but not quite the quality of a glossy magazine.

A steal at £109!

Are the books you download on to them expensive?

Call me old fashioned but I like the idea of a good old paperbacks.

I like to cheat and get the audiobooks Embarassed. I think this is generally the better option if you are up and about on the move...although I will always take a book to the beach instead of my ipod.

Never heard an audio book before. What would you do if the narrator has an annoying voice. That would be a bit off putting.

It'd be great if it was like sat nav and you could change the voice to someone like John Cleese!

Got my books for skiing - Eclipse and the first Jo Nesbo novel and the third Larson one too (might be reading lots if it's a total white out)

I prefer real books too, don't think I'd like to read off a screen. Also, I don't think I'd get as much out of an audio book, I know there's no logic behind it but I always feel a bit like I've achieved something when I finish a book and I don't think I'd get that with an audio one, not having done any of the work!

Totally agree. When you finish a great book you can recommend it to friends. I'd much rather be saying "i've read ..." rather than I've had it read to me! Still not knocking audio books. Just prefer tohave the paper in my hands I think.

Definitely agree about preferring real books, however after reading Sophie Raworth's blog post about running to audio books, I can see how they'd be really useful for that kind of thing!

I agree too -real books are definitely better. although I think audio books are great for when you can't actually read, like in the car.

Has anyone tried the new Kindle?
