I have just received my number for the Hoylake 10K in September. Any advice for a first time 10K-er?

Congrats! I think the best way is to get a training plan and stick to it. When are you going to start to train?

I think you should just train from as soon as possible and don't just run, do some resistance training too

Make sure you eat well for your runs, lots of carny dinners etc

Thanks for the advice, I'd better start training!

Have you at least bought some decent running shoes and breathable/supportive clothing? That's the best place to start (and it gives you the motivation to train if you've got the kit and look the part!).

Is it wise for me to train on the same route as the race, to get a feel for it?

Wow I did the Hoylake 10K two years ago, it's a great route. The only thing was the wind. Man it was harsh! Made the race seem a lot longer!

Yeah if at all possible check out the route but it's not necessary, the main thing is to enjoy it but it depends how competetive you're feeling.

Brilliant, nice to hear that someone has run it too! It's a place I love so hopefully I will enjoy the route too. I am not competitive at all- I am going to sound cheesy now and just say 'it's the taking part' that I'm bothered about! It's a personal goal just to run the lot without stopping, I don't care how long it takes me!!
