I have never run the USAF Marathon and am wondering if there are many women runners since it’s a “Military” marathon. Anyone have feedback?

I'm running and I'm a female. :)

There are many women runners. I ran the half-marathon last year. Great challenging course and the best medal around!

I too am running the marathon. I ran a the OBX half in preparation for the AF Marathon. Also, i have some female friends who are coming up and we are going to have a reunion before/after/ maybe even during the run.

Based on a quick look at previous results for the race posted at www.marathonguide.com, it appears that more than 400 women completed the marathon last year, and for the last few years women runners were about 25% to 33% of the finishers. Also, look at the pictures, lots of women runners in the photos.

I've run the full twice, and done five other marathons, and I'd say the number of women participating is about the same as in most other marathons I've run. Maybe a little lower than in some of the big marathons, but unless you are ridiculously fast, you'll find plenty of other women around!

While the Air Force Marathon is a Military Marathon, it is open to the public so you will see all kinds of people there. There are many women and all medical stations have women personnel available should you have concerns. The doctor who took care of me two years ago was great. I took one side-step at mile 18 and had four medical people checking me out. You'll be hard pressed to find better care at any other Marathon.

'til later,
Scott

Don't forget, there are lots of women in the military, too! Just because it's a military marathon doesn't mean it's all men (thankfully).

I've run this the last three years, and there are plenty of folks of all ages/sexes/shapes/sizes/abilities. And it's small enough to still feel friendly.

Yes!! I'm in the Air Force Reserve, and this will be my first running event ever. I've been getting ready and am on track to run the half on time!! Can't wait. Should be plenty of ladies out there. :)
