Does anyone have any experience of training after a vascectomy, I have mine due in Feb and am wondering how much it will effect my training. How much time if any will I need off running and cycling to recover?

Seriously, I nearly had the snip a while back, and I think some others on here have had. I asked the doc and she said a couple of weeks if you're carefull.

Yes agree, had it done 6 years ago( so you all know now) didn't run then but played football, was out only for 2 weeks, would think running would be a lttle less, Cycling though thats another story rather you then me. its tender for a while the smell is the worst..... that sort of singe smell never goes away ever ever ever.

Hi Grober
I asked a very similar question pre-snip myself. I was 'done' back in September. Me personally I had 3 weeks off (only as I got bashed down below in the 2nd week - ouch
) but like RDR said 2 weeks will probably be ok. Rule of thumb I suppose is, run when you feel ok to do so. My 1st run back was a very gentle 2 miler (more psychologically than physically.) Obey your crown jewels- I'm sure they'll let you know if they are sore!! and buy some new tight fitting undercrackers to be on the safe side. BTW, I think I've had more pain going to the dentists (admittedly you do get a dull ache for a few days) so don't be too concerned about the op.

Bollox again?......
I played Rugby the week after mine, although, I did have my little plums well and truly wrapped up and snug!....I would say 2 weeks is plenty as long as you wear tight panties!.......I had a reversal btw about 6 years ago (for anyone who is worried as to how permanent it really is), and 3 days after I fell off a ladder doing some DIY stuff. I got a haematoma in my sack which was about 3 times the size of my nuts!...(that's Testiclay for you French)!
.....That really hurt!..

I had the op last Easter and was able to return to work 2 days later. (Albiet I was a bit slow getting up and down off my chair !) I did try running a couple of weeks afterwards - it felt a bit tender so I recommend that you take it very gentle on your first couple of runs... Set off with the intention of only doing 1 or 2 miles, but be prepared to only go round the block if it starts to hurt ! Have you considered getting Arnica tablets to reduce the bruising ? I successfully avoided bruising by using them after the snip (plus lots of ibroprofen !) You can get Arnica over the counter at Boots.

Definitely go for the tight pants option, you really don`t want too much jiggling about going on down there. I would agree with the 2 weeks but then everyone heals differently. I wish I`d gone down the arnica route, with the swelling and the bruising I thought I was gonna turn into Linford Christie!! Unfortunately back to normal after a couple of weeks
Nice one Sparky......knob!!
