Advice needed! After 4 miles of my last long run 2 weeks ago I got knee pain which the pysio diagnosed as Illiotibial band syndrome. As a result have not run for 2 weeks, with 1 week to go. Physio toldd me to heat buttock and stretch IT band 3x per day. Yesterday did short brisk 3.5m which felt OK. Can any one give me advice on my approach for the day itself. Should I run more briskly for 4/5 miles at a time with planty of walk/rest or jsut go for the steady 10 min per mile that I had originally planned?
Also can anyone recommend preventative pain relief on the day?

Hi mate,
I'm having a very similar problem and at a bit of a loss at what the best form of attack is a week before the big day. After 6 months of good training my knee has given me no end of problems this last month. (runners knee possibly) I have hardly run in the past fortnight and don't know whether to just not do anything now until the big day or try and at least get a light jog in this week.
The last run I went for I tried using a knee strap but that didn't seem to help and I'm reading everywhere that pain killers are a big no no on the day.
I'm confident I'll be able to drag myself round on Sunday but don't know what my best chance is in temrs of preperation this week. I might treat myslef to a massage at the exhibition this week.
