Hi fellow buzzers, I went for a 6 miler tonight trying to get back into the groove after postponing my 15.lsr on sunday due to weather conditions, most of the snow has melted now around here and as i was warming down around the college carpark i stepped on a ridge of snow caused by cars and went over on my right ankle luckily i managed to recover and my ankle is fine, but it could easily have been so different sprain, strain, ligament etc i could have been out for weeks so just be a bit careful out there in these slippery and icy conditions. Cheers Billyboy,

I'm in a village in Essex and the paths & roads are like an ice rink! I went out last night & came home after 2 minutes so tried again tonight. The roads had thawed a little so I put my hi-viz vest on and ran in the road, just having to hop on the Icey path when a car came along. Managed to do 8.5 miles so happy to get stuck in again after 2 days no running! You do have to be so careful in places and it felt tough on the feet and ankles running on the ice but hopefully the snow and ice will start to thaw out.

It's meant to be the coldest night tonight so it's going to be bad tomorrow too, it's been a bit of an ice rink up north too, I'm glad now I joined a gym, not so glad that I've been ill so can't run ATM :(

My car was saying -7 at 6pm on the way home and for the first 3 or 4 miles of tonights run I couldn't feel my hands, despite wearing gloves! I plan to do my long run on Thursday night as I'm in Liverpool at the weekend to watch Chelsea play Everton so I need to get that out of the way, just hope the temperature goes up a degree or two!

I ran last night and tonight, last night was ok because the snow was still wet but not slippy. Tonight it was all ice so we ran in the road, no high vis though :( must pick one up.

Yes be careful.  Running on snow (even packed) is fine, ice is not.  Also, I would definitely not run in the road without a hi-viz.

In conditions like this I find it best to try and find snow as untrodded as possible and wear trail shoes.

Not too bad down South. Took yesterday off work to do my 17 miler LSR which I could not do on Sunday as had local 10k race. I live by the coast and ran up onto the South Downs way from my house. It was just gorgeous up there. Not a soul about and a decent amount of snow up there. I'd put on my trail shoes as was mostly off road and am glad I did. I managed to run on fresh untrodden snow, but on the bits that had been trodden on it was icy underneath. This weather is a pain I know but yesterday up on the South Downs way, all on my lonesome...no walkers, dogs, horses, cyclists...sun shining, it was just fab. I wish all my LSR's could be as enjoyable and soul lifting.  Laughing

I managed 10 in the snow on Sunday, like Nu I ran in trail shoes. Everywhere was quiet. Really nice (this is the depths of the Suffolk countryside)

5.5 around the village last night, most of the roads were clear but a little ice around. 12 of us from the local RC and no damage to report

But you're right, be careful out there!

It's very icy here as well - uneven snow that has compacted and frozen solid, as well as black ice. I managed a run in my Inov-8 X-talon shoes this morning (can't believe they're charging £90 for them in shops now) and I was okay. However, if I run on hard surfaces in them for over 8-10 miles I tend to pick up injuries. Prefer to use them for off-road, which is what they're meant for, and shorter distances.

Stay indoors & have a nap instead. Much the best policy Cool

Your policy is to stay indoors and get drunk!

Did you hear about the time a couple of months ago when we were out drinking in Greenwich and he'd bought himself a bottle of expensive fancy cider to take home then got so drunk in the pub after he left it on the train?!

Ha ha no I didn't! Very funny.

That sounds lovely - I love Suffolk and can imagine the snow and the quiet. Laughing

Hi mashley,

Thats a total no no matey, it's bad enough dodging some crazy drivers out there and thats with high viz gear, you've got to be seen mate pop down to the pound shop thats all the vests cost, just for your own benefit if not others.  Cheers Billyboy,Smile
