Need advice on staying well

Hello all, am just wondering if any of you can give me some advice.  I was ill over Christmas which messed up a bit of the beginning of my training, I however got well again and did two weeks of full training not missing any runs and clocking up to 20miles in a week with my long run being 9miles.  However following that I became ill again just over a week ago, I have asthma which means when I get a cold I get knocked back quite hard and have issues with my breathing.  I'm still slightly under the weather at the moment, with a slight sniffle and cough and still some issues with breathing at times.  Today I've treated myself to some Multi-vitimans which I'm planning to take regularly.  But either way I'm getting a bit fed up of being unwell and am getting worried about missing training, although I know theres no point training when unwell as I'll only make myself worse.  I'm due to go to running club tomorrow, but don't yet know if I should or will, think it depends on how I feel tomorrow.  Can anyone offer any advice please?  Thank you x

Avs I have been wondering how you are, ive really missed reading your blog.  So sorry you are still unwell, have you tried manuka honey?  I think its brilliant, I have a spoonful per day and I hardly need my inhalers now.  You can get it at most supermarkets, or holland and barret (currently on offer 241)  Get at least the 10+ one though.  About £12 per jar but worth every penny.  Worth a try?

Get well soon XXX

Hello Mrs D.  I may actually try the manuka honey, my Nana swears by it, though I personally am not a big fan of honey, though anything is worth a try.  I updated my blog earlier after seeing your message today (which I also replied to).  I've also ordered more inhailers today as I'm starting to run a bit low so always good to have spares in :)

Give the honey a go, I just put a teaspoonful on my breakfast cereal every day. X

PS if you're not keen on honey, just view it as a daily medicine...

I personally don't believe in supplements or other tricks or gadgets to stay healthy.  A balanced diet is essential though, and a point often missed is that you need more sleep when you increase training.  That will keep you in mostly good health, although if you are exposed to something very contagious, you will get it.  That includes the common cold, and no supplement will protect you from that.

I was very skeptical about Manuka honey but found it to really help my asthma.  Avril also suffers from Asthma so its definately worth a try.  Nothing to lose (apart from a tenner!)
