Hi there,
I'm looking for a little bit of advice. I've just signed up for VLM with a golden bond place (friend who works for a charity has had a lot of last minute drop outs, and rather than the charity lose the places altogether thought I'd offer my feet!)
I ran the marathon 2 years ago, and am currently running about 18 miles a week plus a couple of British Military Fitness sessions, with a 12 mile trail run this weekend coming. Should I just jump straight into week 7 of a 16 week training programme (was looking at either Runners World or BUPA), or gradually ease myself in? I'm keen to start upping my long runs asap, as the furthest I'd ran in training for 2010 was 20miles, and I wished I had gone further!!
Thanks
Well, if it was me and as you are doing 18 miles already and other stuff, I'd just jump right on in and go for it. Am sure many would not agree with me but only you know your own level of fitness. Go for it and good luck..

Personally, I do not think 18 miles per week will allow you to jump easily onto week 7 of a programme. You need to take a good look at them and the weekly mileages, and see how you can feather things in, but it may require a quick increase in mileage over the next few weeks...
Forum signatures are for wimps
Thanks for all your advice. I'm just going to see how it goes, will definitely start building up the long runs as a matter of urgency though!!
I signed up so that the charity wouldn't lose their place, so not anticipating getting a decent PB (if one at all) At the moment just want to enjoy the day as much as I did last time.
I signed up on Feb 10, just hours before the deadline, and though I was kinda following the "FIRST: run less, run better" schedule, am still a bit nervous about leaving the mental prep and research a bit too late. Let's see how it goes for me- would be interested to see your progress!
Good luck!
