Just opened today's post and have got a place in the 2013 London Marathon! I had no inkling what the letter was until I opened it and couldn't comprehend just what it was to begin with. I have tried so many times and been rejected but at last this is it! Typically I have not been doing any exercise for a bit due to some hip pain which I'm going to see about next week. I'm keeping everything crossed I can get on and start training after my appointment. The furthest I've run in the past is 7 miles and only ever run in a 5K so I have a lot of work to do. Oh and I should mention that next year is my 50th birthday so no spring chicken and a plump one at that!
Apprehensive is the word for today I think!
Congratulations
Get that hip sorted and dont start training till you do - if its hurting before you start you need to correct what ever is wrong.
Good luck

Congratualtions on getting in!!
Agree with Keith...then take your time .Youll do it !

A big fat rejection letter for me, but Ive a place for Brighton, any other London rejects doing that?

Thanks for your encouragement everyone. It has sunk in a bit more now!
If you didn't get a place this time keep trying! I have been trying for 8 years - thought I would get an automatic place after 5 consecutive rejections some time back but there was a mix up over how many applications I had made (and paid for!) and I went back to the beginning! I think I deserve a place this time!!
I registered for Brighton thinking that I had no chance in the London Ballot. Came home today to find my very excited 11 year old daughter bouncing out the front door clutching the days' post......'You are in, you are in' she screemed. I cant believe it. Fantastic. This will be London number three for me. Just need to decide on whether or not to do a Brighton/London in a madcap 7 day double header......

Stay Alive!

I'm in, despite saying never again after last year! My race last year was perfect and the whole day was an amazing experience and I managed to run a sub 4 hour marathon at the third time of trying. My previous two London Marathons were not good experiences so, having had such a good day last year, I did say I wouldn't do it again as I don't think I can better last years experience.
However, when the ballot opened there were a few of us at work talking about it so 4 of us entered the ballot. I've heard from two of my colleagues tonight and they got accepted as well so we'll find out if the 4th one has tomorrow! Amazing to find that at least 3 of us 4 have been accepted!
So after a few months break from Realbuzz, here we go again! Let the fun begin and all that hard training again
I'm in!! My second successive London Marathon (last year was errrrrm rather difficult due to lack of training) but can't wait to actuAlly train this year!! Congratulations everyone!

I didn't entirely believe that the 2nd draw for 1000 places actually took place. I always donate my entry fee anyway, not for a 2nd chance in this 2nd draw, not for the fleece / jacket / whatever it is going to be when you get rejected, but because I feel it will help in some small way.
Anyway, I was unsuccesful in the ballot - but got a place through the very draw I didn't entirely believe in
.
My 3rd London this will be - and I'm as excited as I was for the first

Its a shame with so many people wanting to get in that so many people are disappointed. At least you should get in next year with last year of the 5 and in rule as long as your five were in a row.
The odds of getting in at least once in five attempts is only just better than 50/50

I'm very surprised that with my first ballot entry I have got a place (and it arrived on my birthday).
I have mixed emotions, my first marathon was running London this year and I entered on the high from a great marathon and am now wondering if I have it in me again as I did all the training by myself and it was literally blood, sweat and tears. I know I should be so very grateful with so many people desperately wanting places.
I've instructed my sister to get a charity place so she can train with me (we are already doing a half at the end of October after she was insipired by watching London), I'm hoping having somebody to train with will make things a bit easier-ha ha.
I think it's the pressure I know I will put on myself for getting a PB, I beat myself up a lot over things, I find that having to miss a training session is literally teh end of the world and I feel guilty for days.
My housemate just texted me to say a marathon t shirt has turned up in the post, he didn't open the package (not his post after all) to see for definite whether I've got a place or not. He's now gone to work so can't get him open it to check for me. Did those that got in get a t shirt? I know there was a "consolation" prize if you donated your entry fee but I think this was a jacket this year. Can anyone shed any light on this as it's doing my head in stuck at work!
Cheers

Afraid you are not in as they don't send any clothing to succesful people - you get it after the race. The "t-shirt" will be a white running jacket showing you are rejected but donated.

Well it seems I am in too!! I did manage to get through on that link yesterday, pay and get a confirmation but I wasnt convinced until the magazine came this morning.
Once it has sunk in I will be fine
Its been 3 years since I was last around on this forum hope to catch up with some old and new faces
I didn't know peanuts grew underground!
It became apparent when I got home that Elvis did not enter my house!
I feel exhausted just thinking about it esp after a long summer of racing and picking up an annoying ankle injury which has stopped me running for two weeks (eek amsterdam half in a few weeks time). I can give one piece of sound advice - don't enter a race which involves running on beach shingle and sand dunes and other random trails a few weeks before a 'bigger race'.
Got my rejected mag on Thursday after work. 24 hours later charity place confirmed with victa. So on the brightside I should be on the red start. Because red is better than blue and indeed green or any other colour.
Just got my rejection mag and if I'm not mistaken Madonnagaga has got herself plastered all over page 118.
