Why oh why are some people so negative about what others set out to try to achieve ??
I've done quite a few marathons in my time and have a goal I am busy working towards....50 by April 2014....and am on track so far.
I have just entered Comrades ultra marathon for next year.....for those of you who don't know it is a 56 mile run held annually in South Africa. The run is a road run, undulating, and next year is between Durban and Pietermauritzburg.......they alternate every year......that is all pretty tough but the killer is there is a 12 hour cut-off.
So, I've entered. Two running pals wanted to do it next year and it was too good an opportunity to miss. I would not be a woman travelling alone etc etc....but it would have been better for me the year after.
I have been thinking about this for a few months now and had thought to keep it quiet. I decided against it and the support I have had since I entered only on Saturday, has been great. One of the reasons I was going to keep it quiet is that there are some people out there who are JUST so negative and for whatever reason JUST want to put you down and what you have achieved....just because for whatever reason they don't want to...or maybe cannot even do what you are striving hard to do.
So, to any of you out there who are just looking to set a pretty high target for yourself - be it your first 10k , half marathon or marathon but feel scared to for all sorts of reasons including the scoffing and put downs you might have to endure from some......just stick your fingers up at them and DO IT !!!!!!!!
There is no guarantee you will succeed but at least you know you tried !!!!!

50 to do and will let you know when I'm there - but am still one ahead of Sir C de Custarde....oh no, hang on...am now TWO ahead......mwah ha haaaaaaa.
"If you have no critics itis likely you have no success" Malcolm X
or
"U are Ultraordinary" Comrades 2013
Its one amazing day - you will love it and sod the critics.
"Nobody said it would be easy But they did say it would be worth it"
I don't understand. What are these negative comments based on?
I only know you from here but based on your running history, it's pretty obvious that you will succeed, and enjoy yourself as well.
Forum signatures are for wimps
Personally I think you're bloody stupid..........................................
Sounds like a proper blast though.....can I come too....

Hi Laurent - I think the negative comments are based on the thought that it is too much and that I do too much and that it's like I'm trying to prove something....which is just hugely insulting as who on earth would be so mad as to do such a thing to prove something. Apart from the cost of the thing, just the sheer amount of work I will have to do, time and effort also to put inon top of being a mum and working full-time.
My other half is a non runner - he pretty much hates all things running related as he hears about it all. the. time.......but he has been so supportive of this since the seed was sown in my bonce about a month ago. He knew that once I'd decided on something, I just had to try. If anyone has the right to comment it would be him....but he is 100 per cent backing me. He won't come with me as the thought of being is such a running fuelled atmosphere for a week would just be too much for him to cope with.....lol.
Some people just want to put others down............it's sad but that is the way it would appear to be for some reason.
Many thanks for your nice comment and I am obvs going to try my bloody hardest to succeed and also yes, to enjoy myself if at all possible !!!

Clarendon is a "no" as I need to do a club championship race that day; A20, I have the entry form somewhere and made the decision yesterday to go for it; Portsmouth, I'd love to, but that close to Christmas, I think I'd be shot!
Instead of those two, I'm planning on the Brentwood and Saxon Shore marathons. As for becoming a wannabe, it's my aim for 2013, but I expect to take most of the year to do the rest.

I have just quite literally entered Clarendon. Am doing Portsmouth and some others before then. Am also hoping on A20 but not entered yet. They are all now training runs so as long as I am careful, I want to do as many as possible as I suspect I will be pretty scuppered next year IF all goes to plan and I do Comrades as cannot imagine how I will feel after that.
Saxon Shore looks lovely but just too far for me to get to by 8.00 without hotel stay. Am already booked into 2 hotel stays for other maras this year and have to kerb my spending....lol.
I am planning to be a Wannabe at Brighton 2014.
