Hi guys,
Haven' been here in a while!!
So this isn't marathon related, but I was really sure where to post it? I don't really 'run' as such, but when I did 'run' I would always over pronate and got dreadful shin splints. So, I decided to try out the bare foot running so I wasn't heel striking. I last went on a 'run' a good month ago but recently my feet have been sore on the top at the outside. To begin with they only hurt in the morning, but now they hurt all day, but only when walking. The only thing that's coming up online is a stress fracture, but surely that wouldn't start hurting when I last ran a month ago?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Freya

You're not pregnant are you Freya...????........could be several things including your laces are too tight, you're not running often enought to toughen up your feet for a run, your form is rubbish, etc,, etc,,,etc....if you want to run barefoot (freak)!!!. then it will take at least 6 months to get your bod right for it, so be patient. Also, running in this heat can cause lots of the sort of probs you are having, barefoot or no. My feet ache like crap atm.......Although obviously if you go for a run and your legs explode don't blame me...!!

Well, we all manage to do too much too soon when we take up barefoot/minimalist running - I had a lot of TOTFP (top of the foot pain - very common) when I did it. You've got to really slash the mileage - we're talking runs of less than a mile - while you re-learn.
But as it's a month ago, it does seem a bit odd. Best get it checked out by a physio.
Soft & fuzzy
Thanks guys :) When I say I'm not a runner I mean it- runs were less than 0.5 miles! Taking it slowly!!

Apply tiger balm on your foot and put socks on. When you feel your foot is loosing sensitivity, start walking on grass with only your socks on, also on rocks, on top of landscape fill, sand, or any uneven grounds. Walk for 3-5 min 5-6 times a day. This will gradually massage your foot muscles by making them do what they should. Foot injuries heal longer than other body parts. Be patient and do not rush the process, or it will take even longer.
