Do we need to snack?

I snack between meals, usually healthy things, but does our body actually need the extra fuel or is it just a boredom/routine thing?

Some people need to snack, others dont. I sit in an office with majority '3 meals a day' men but all of us women snack and eat smaller meals, this could be partly down to evolving though, men would be out all day hunting and get 1 big 'priority' meal after, women would mostly gather so had the opportunity to pick at berries etc all day. Its not so much fuel as making sure your blood sugar is stable, i snack on nuts and veg for the most part and it keeps the temptation from the junk food as im rarely hungry.

Although i think women do snack more, I'm not sure it's an evolutionary thing. I'm definitely a grazer

Maybe not, it's just one of many theories but it's interesting. I know a lot more men who are the '3 meals a day' type than snackers and more women who are grazers than '3 set meal a day'-ers.

As far as eating goes I definitely suit the 'grazing' more than the 3 meals, I can't fit enough into my stomach in each meal to feel satisfied hours later and abundant but low-calorie eating seems to work well to keep my appetite and weight stable.

I used to feel guilty when I snacked as I thought I should be able to live off three meals, but now I realise I need to snack to keep everything balanced - I get irritable and dizzy. But that's just me.
