Man vs Food

Has anyone ever seen the program Man vs Food? This guy goes to a different American city every episode and eats some of their signature dishes before taking on a local food challenge at the end of every episode. The stuff he eats is ridiculous, the challenge always involves eating a mountain of food, or eating something insanely spicy. The strangest thing is he's not even that fat! Here is a video of him taking on the 'Big Texan Challenge'. Crazy Americans...

This looks incredible! I'd love to win an eating competition.

Not sure about incredible, it's gruesome. There really is no need for it.

The steak is also quite rare, but that's another subject... eurgh!!

Hmm I'm not so sure about this... it makes me feel a bit sick? I feel a bit uneasy watching people scoff to this extent when there are people starving in the world. Kill joy!

Why do people do this????

Kill the joy or scoff their faces?

The latter... this is beyond eating, it's just a ridiculous form of self abuse. I suppose it's the logical conclusion of the typical attitude towards food in the States, or at least what I encountered.

It is self abuse, you're right! That must be so harmful to your body having to digest all that meat! We're not cave men any more!

Just had a bit more of a read about him, apparently this is how he isn't extremely fat:

Although described as "a bit on the husky side", to maintain his health while indulging for the show, Richman exercises twice a day while he's on the road. When the schedule permits, he does not eat the day before a challenge and he tries to stay "crazy hydrated" by drinking lots of water or club soda and forgoing coffee or soft drinks. After taping for a challenge is complete, Richman spends an hour or so on a treadmill, telling the Las Vegas Review-Journal, "Being sedentary is incredibly uncomfortable. Despite the fact that the first 10 minutes or 15 minutes on the treadmill might suck, it actually does alleviate a lot of pressure, and you feel better."

That is nothing compared to Epic Meal Time, who put bacon and Jack Daniels with everything. It's pretty nasty.

Posted 28.10.11, 4:25pm

Now, I love both those things, but not to that extent!

Jack Daniels goes well with anything!

Best show on TV, makes me feel hungry! I have my own Man vs. Food challenege tonight. 32oz steak, going to be epic.

What kind of things do you eat in a normal day?

I'd love to enter a food eating competition, always reminds of Monica on Friends when she talks about winning that pie eating comp.

running on a stuffed tummy is the sport I'm mostly trained for...unluckily it seems I can't avoid binging the day before a marathon, it's a misstep I keep on reiterating
