I've been hearing a lot about Jamie Oliver and his school dinner initiative today and got to thinking about my school dinners. They were awful. Fatty meat, chips, something called a cheesy bun. What do you think about his push towards healthier school dinners?

Healthier eating can't be a bad thing and targeting younger children is good in a way because their diets are most easily influenced. I can't really complain about my school dinners (when I was at school anyway!), they were generally good, balanced, plenty of veg and fruit options for pudding.
Healthy school dinners are a good thing, but sensible eating also needs to be addressed by the parents outside of school. If the parent isn't encouraging a healthy balanced diet, healthy school dinners will be less influential.
Obesity is a huge problem, my attitude towards my eating was highly guided by my parents who brought us up on the 'if you don't like it, leave it' way of eating. The no-pressure approach to eating is good, I was always open to trying a wide variety of foods and I always loved fruit and veg so I chose it.
He's got one heck of a task ahead of him. For all the healthy eating advice that gets rammed down our throats, we're an expanding nation.

Jamie Oliver drives me MAD!!! Don't get me wrong I'm all for healthy school dinners, but it's all just a gimmick for him. What does he even know about healthy eating? Most of his recipes on his website/show/books are not even healthy! It's a little bit hypocritical.

I usually like Jamie Oliver, but I watched his show last night and can't stand his new, fake essex accent. In his other shows he's always had a southern, fairly neutral voice, but now he seems to have found his essex tones. He looks like a complete fool.

I did prefer him in his earlier days as the Naked Chef and he's got a bit too commercial in recent years... healthy school dinners can't be a bad thing though, even if the way of addressing it isn't quite ideal!
