I have constant sugar cravings but I want them to go away as when I eat chocolate or cake I get headaches, feel irritable, get eczema and feel bloated. Suggestions?

Your body needs simple sugars - which means fruit. Simples. Cool

i heard you should only have 2 pieces of fruit per day recently, came as a shock to me. It feels like there's so much to learn about getting your diet and fitness right

I'm sorry but whoever said that was an idiot! Amazing what gets bandied about. Of all the processed, manufactured, unhealthy rubbish in people's diets and yet people are going on about fruit! I have been on a high fruit diet for over 18 months and it's the healthiest I've ever been. Other people with all kinds of digestive problems have cured themselves on it.

People who have digestive problems should eat a fruit based diet then? Maybe I should give it a go as I have IBS.

Refined sugar cravings are awkward, theyre addictive and the body will crave them. Best way to get rid is cold turkey the refined sugars and carbs, first 3 days can suck but you feel better after. Dont worry about diet, get lots of fruit, veg, nuts, seeds and protein into your body for the first week. After a week you should start to crave healthier choices naturally. The banana that rs suggested may not help the initial craving but you will feel better for eating it.

You'll only know if the fruit suits you if you try it, I usually consume 2-4 portions of fruit a day but a lot more veg... my body just seems to agree with veg more. I don't have digestion problems.

Interesting raw food site, I do eat cooked food and grains but also eat a fair bit of raw food and I try to serve uncooked fruit or veg with each meal... think I'll try switching part of my main portion for a bit more of it.

I love fruit and veg, but I think a diet solely based on them would leave me feeling dizzy, faint and with no energy.

Theoretically you would feel hellish for several days because your body would be battling for you to eat your normal diet. After that you should feel fantastic. Many people live extremely healthily on a vegan diet afterall and I know of 1 who regularly runs marathons. I think my main issue would be keeping my iron levels high enough.

RS, would you mind listing an example day of what you might eat? Meals/snacks and if any of it is cooked. I'm curious. PM if you like, I will probably have a few questions if you have the time!

Gosh that's a lot of fruit. How does your body cope digesting that lot?! I am looking for a much simpler, less extreme answer for my digestive problems, so I don't think I'll be trying this one.

Like I say, fruit is the easiest thing for the body to handle. I eat this way so my body doesn't have to cope so much...

So what about people who get cramps and wind from too much fruit?

Also bear in mind if RS is consuming 3,000kcal he's consuming at least 1/3 more than the average active person and proably near on 2/3 more of what the average sedentary person needs to be eating. The quantities need to be high to keep the calorie content up and provide the relevant nutrition.

Bodies also digest fruit very easily, but you need to consume fruit on its own and not with other foods. Because the fruit digests quicker it can ferment whilst the other food is being digested, this can cause wind, bloating and stomach upsets.

I'm genuinely interested, I have no issues with improving my current diet, particularly at breakfast, lunch and snacking when I can control my food more easily. My main issue with a properly raw food diet would be the evening meal, which is the only shared meal of the day (which is cooked and I can guarantee will contain meat and carbs!). I'm going to work on including more juices and fruit into my general day and see how I feel in 2 weeks time. Might even try and get the OH on the experimental bandwagon, probably to his dismay :) I'll keep my eye out for the book.
