Hot drinks instead of snacks

Do you think you could lose a few lbs by replacing snacks with herbal teas etc? In cold weather I feel more hungry but sometimes it's just the comfort of eating I crave, so can a hot drink satisfy this?

Teaspoon of Marmite and hot water - nice savoury warming drink...

I will have to give that a go!

I love marmite, but have never even thought or heard of this. It'd be really healthy too. Have to give it a go.

I know a girl who used to drink cups of gravy...

It is a myth that drinking 'fills you up'. It does short term, but it 'inflates' your stomach (for want of a better description), but it also empties quickly. This causes signals to be sent to the brain to say 'needs more food'.

Her parents need putting away.

Ee that sounds horrid! I love gravy on roast dinners but not instead of a brew!

Hot Marmite sounds good... not so keen on the gravy idea!

Never tried hot Marmite, but I like hot Bovril. I drink a lot of herbal tea when its cold.

Hot drinks can help by keeping your body temperature up a little bit when it's cold, which can stave off low levels of hunger. Your body will naturally want a bit more food in winter and a hot drink can trick it to a certain point. Liquid won't satisfy your appetite if you're hungry, no matter how much you drink or how hot/cold you have it.

Are you kidding?! It sounds like my worst nightmare! Cry

Gravy! What else do you drink? Apple sauce

I think I'd just rather a pina colada!! Ooh or a mulled wine (more in tune with the season)

Posted 17.11.11, 10:31am

Ooh yeah they sound like better options – love mulled wine!

Me too - wooo roll on wintery festive drinks! Is mulled wine relatively healthy?

Posted 30.11.11, 8:42am

I love mulled wine. But I tried mulled cider for the first time yesterday and really enjoyed it. Probably not too healthy though.

Yeah I reckon it's relatively healthy as alcohol goes - packed with antioxidants from the red wine and some contains fruit juice too.Homemade is probably best though as they can pile in the sugar in bought ones.

I've never tried mulled cider, which do you think's better?

Miso soup is my favourite - Pret do a good one and you can get it in achets form the helath food shop too.

I swear my mum lives on soup and nothing else, and she is pretty healthy so there you go!

Posted 03.12.11, 10:53am

Never tried mulled wine and never heard of mulled cider! I'm pretty rubbish where alcohol is concerned!

On the subject of miso soup, it's something I keep in the cupboard and drink every now and then but I can't say it's particularly nice! Do you buy it flavoured or something?
