Surely you'd have to be a nutter to run all five in the same year. And Boston marathon is so close to London so Ibet it doesn't tell you in any running book to run two marathons with a week of one another. Crazy mothers, people who do this.
a friend of mine did them over 2 years, which is what the elite boys do. 5 in a year, with them being in 2 batches would be tough!
I know one guy who did all five in the same year. I think the Boston and London runs almost back to back were the killer.
In Istanbul, we won it five times!
Even the thought of travelling to all of those places in a year seems tiring! Five marathons in a year - you have to be joking!

I hear Boston was so bloody cold this year that you needed a hot day at London just to thaw out! How does anyone even think of covering the cost of running all five?
Doing all five - you'd have to be either extremly loaded or be one hell of a fundraiser to cover enough to run all five majors. And then there's the qualifying time for Boston too, so you'd have to be a pretty good runner too.

I must be a complete psycho then. I ran three marathons in a weekend. Beachy Head Saturday, Snowdonia Sunday and Dublin Monday. Also put in a marathon drinking session on the Tuesday. Unfortunately cannot do the same thing this year as the Snowdonia marathon has been changed to Saturday.
The only way to know the limits of the possible is to go beyond them to the impossible.

Guess I'm with you Ed Psycho's stick together, each year from Jan-June I usually run 3 x 42km, 2 x 50km and then 1 xComrades 89km races with a mixture of 32km's and 21km's races inbetween. I have run a 42km, 21km and 10km races in one day called the Kosmos 3-in-1 done that 3 times. When I type it all in paragraph it scares me !!
Woah guys, you put me to shame. Think I'd be pushing it just doing one, but I've got to aim for it to get me out of my Homer-like state. Beer bellies ain't attractive are they?

Most of the runners that I know after races pot a few beers as well.... We are lucky out here in SA as we have organised races most weekends so it is easy to get the races in.

The more miles you run the more pints you can drink.

Hi Sam
Advice
1) Congratulate yourself for making a great decision.
2) Talk it through with anyone affected. You are going to spend a lot of time training.
3) Work out how you are going to fit the training in to your life.
4) Follow a standard marathon plan but increase the length of the long run so you can do about 35/40 miles three weeks before Comrades.
Happy to provide more detailed advice and put you in touch with other Comrades runners. You can contact me via www.runthecountry.co.uk

Thanks so much... Am actually very excited by my decision and have begged all affected by it to just let me have this year to do as I please and then I will go back to being a wife and mother proper for ever more.... :o) Am running the Luton Marathon on the 2nd December as my first... so fingers crossed for that!
Hi Sam, Congratulations on the decision to take part in what is truly a wonderful race. The best advice I can give is take advice from Edward he has 7 finishes and trains over there in the Uk. I train during mid to the end of our summer here and with us having organised races every weekend out here I can use alot of these races as training, so the distances I'm doing may not be possible for you. Yep will need a very understanding family... not just because of the time you'll spend out running but it's the only conversation you'll have. But all I say is it's worth it, don't let anyone put you off.
Thanks so much... am looking forward to the training... I am about 18lbs heavier than I should be so in order to make the run easier these have to come off as well... So poor husband not only has a wife who will be out running at all hours... I won't even be drinking and eating in the same way... he will have to be extra understanding and I will have to be extra nice
Not sure if it is the same for women as it is for men but for us running lots increases the libido so your husband could be a very luck guy :D
