England unchanged for the game against Italy. It's been very close the last 2 matches, annoying but true...Saracens players dominate the back line for England. Let's hope they can produce a bit more flair this weekend, especially as I'm travelling all the way to Rome to watch the game. New home for Italy this year at the Stadio Olimpico as the Stadio Flaminio is being refurbished, but potentially a bigger crowd if they sold all the tickets. Should be fun (provided England wins!).

I see Wales has already used it's 'get out of jail free' card for this season. Were they just lucky or were Ireland the authors of their own defeat, or more precisely, that man Ferris?!

Dan Parks has retired from international rugby. Apparently he wanted to play against England before retiring. Just a shame a played 'that' kick that lost the game for Scotland!

It seems all Scotland's experience didn't add up to much yesterday and still they can't score a try in this fixture (last one in 2004 or something stupid like that). England definitely benefitted from poor Scottish skills and ideas. England weren't great, but they were good in small speall, and producing 'wins' from difficult circumstances is the sign of character, which for such a 'young' team was quite impressive. They had to absorb a lot of pressure towards the end to hold on as well, which is always good for a tense, exciting finish.

    • craigbeat 'I'd say Scotland (marginally) played the better rugby, but they made some terrible, terrible mistakes. I can see England getting stronger after this. Unfortunately, I can see Scotland do their usual 'ach well' and sort of giving up a bit.' 4 days ago

Boring start really. England an Scotland was another case of Scotland deserved to win without doing anything worthy of winning. And yet another case of England winning in the most tedious way imaginable.

Are the matches being broadcast in 3D?

    • twammers 'Italy vs England is...for me anyway as I'll be at the match in Rome, although I think they actually call that 'live' and not 3D!' 6 days ago

Last year's Ireland vs Wales game was a tight affair, with Wales scraping a 15-14 victory. usually these games are a lively, high scoring spectacle so lets hope normal service is resumed again on Sunday...although a high scoring draw would be acceptable!

Robshaw is relatively inexperienced, with only 1 previous cap I believe. He has captained the England Saxons however, so that helps and he's led Quins to table topping performances in the Premiership. Basically he's got 2 games to prove himself and or Lancaster will experiment with others anyway. Should be interesting.

    • Simon_Doyle 'Why two games? Hardly a show of confidence in the fellow. Surely it would make sense to back him, instil some confidence by saying "We believe in you, go and captain us for the whole 6 nations "' 1 week, 3 days ago

So then, Harlequins skipper Chris Robshaw has been named as England captain for the first 2 games of the 6 nations. Thoughts...???

Lancaster won't be announcing the captaincy for the first game until next Monday although Tom Wood (Northampton) seems to be in the frame for this. Apparently it doesn't guarantee the individual the position for the remainder of the 6 Nations season. Temp-Head of Coaching Lancaster seems to advocate everyone being involved to create a depth of leadership in the team. Maybe they could 'spoof' for it at the start of each game...!

I've been thinking about new competitions for those long winter evenings in the England clubhouse, any ideas?? how about 'extreme ironing' to start...
