Farmed in horrific conditions in China, the raccoon dog is a species related to the domestic dog. Animal rights activists recently released video showing sickening scenes of them being skinned alive on a Chinese fur farm.

As a result, there are fears that, this winter, thousands of unsuspecting shoppers may be fooled into buying imitation UGG boots made using pelts of animals skinned alive.

Clearly, the counterfeiters are prepared to go to just about any lengths to maximize profits. Across China, underpaid workers are risking their health in tanneries and sweatshops, producing boots for sale to fashion lovers in the West as the real thing.

Foot fetish store Saks Fifth Ave Greenwich will host a sexy
shoe celebration, previewing the hottest footwear of the season,
from Manolos to Louboutins, in an effort to raise funds for the
    YMCA Greenwich.

It promises to be an event that would make even Carrie Bradshaw
swoon, with models strutting in the sexiest shoes
The event happens Tuesday, Nov. 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the stylish Saks outpost On the Ave. in
Greenwich. And it’s a charitable excuse to indulge your shoe addiction, as 10 percent of the evening's sales will be donated to the YWCA Greenwich, whose mission it is to empower women and eliminate racism. What’s more empowering than a hot pair of heels?

Need another reason to go? Admission is free.

My favourite and legendary designer Christian Louboutin flexes his creative muscle in a different direction as he conjures up his dream cocktail bar for the Grey Goose Winter Ball to benefit the Elton John foundation.

Dubbed the Crazy Luxor bar, the sculptural piece is shaped like a stiletto and finished in a high shine black lacquer with, of course, a red trim to echo his signature red sole

The bar will go on auction at the Architecture of Taste-themed ball, to be held on 29 October in Battersea Park, London.

This Summer Jimmy Choo launched its ICONS line, a capsule collection of 15
iconic designs taken from the company’s archives.

The JIMMY CHOO XV, coffee table book that anthologizes the shoes’ creation through sketches and internal documentation, photo spreads by Mario Testino and Terry Richardson, and paparazzi shots will be available from November.

Sales from the book will go toward the Jimmy Choo Foundation, a recently formed charitable trust chaired by Choo Chief Creative Officer Tamara Mellon.

Among the ICONS lot are the famous suede and feather platform that Carrie Bradshaw lost running to catch the Staten Island Ferry (“I lost my Choo!”), the zebra print boot created to celebrate the brand’s entry onto the U.S. red carpet, and a pointy-toe stiletto pump Mellon wore when she received the Order of the British Empire.

    • Brit_Bird_Abroad 'Can't get to your shortened link from here in the US Hannah so can't see the shoes but if you mean plastic shoes by Viv, I bought a black pair 2 years ago in Portugal. I bought em for the beach so could do heels without ruining shoes with sand. Perfect for elongating the legs, whilst supping on a cocktail and going for a paddle! Ha Ha. Jelly shoes for adults if you will. I loved mine! Still got em! I've added a pic in my photos so you can see if they're the same as ones you were looking at? ' 8 months ago

Nike's trip back to the future is making a mint in the present.

1500 limited-edition pairs of glowing replica shoes, based on a
pair that appeared in the 1989 movie Back to the Future II,
are selling like hot cakes on eBay! at prices ranging from
    $3500 to $10,000.
The new modern version of the shoe, which is rechargeable,
contains an electroluminescent "Nike" panel on the strap and
various LED lights on the sole and heel which can glow
    for five hours per charge.

All proceeds will be donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation
for Parkinson's disease research. Fox appeared recently on the
David Letterman show to promote the new shoes while Fox
and Back to the Future co-star Christopher Lloyd have
both appeared with the shoes in new clips published on YouTube.

Walk-ilates may sound like I've just made it up but it's actually a system designed to improve one of our most basic functions: walking. Ellie Herman, creator of the Walk-ilates concept, came up with the class to improve gait, something people often don't realize isn't up to par. "When the MBT shoes came out, I wanted people to get something out of using them," says Herman. "That shoe was sort of why I started Walk-ilates -- the shoes let people feel what I'm telling them to feel when changing their gait," she explains.

So what's wrong with the way we walk? "The most common thing is that people sit a lot, and as a result their hip flexors tighten and your glutes and hamstrings stop working as well," she says. "The glutes are the most important muscles in stabilizing your pelvis when you walk. If they're weak, the problem of tight, short hip flexors continues to be exacerbated."

Walk-ilates focuses on two main concepts: rolling out your tight muscles on a foam roller and rebalancing lower body muscles like the glutes and hamstrings.
