World Vision Australia has been fighting poverty and injustice around the world for over 40 years. As Australia's largest overseas aid and development organisation, World Vision works in 59 countries, providing life-changing assistance to more than 20 million people every year, thanks to the support of more than 400,000 Australians.
More than a billion people around the world live in poverty and struggle every day simply to survive. World Vision works with these poor communities at a grassroots level, empowering them with the right knowledge, skills and resources to work their way out of poverty.
The aim of many World Vision projects is to help communities become self-reliant through a range of initiatives such as health improvements, education and skills training, agricultural development, access to finance, small business workshops and leadership development.
Team World Vision is about changing lives – the lives of team members and in the communities we work with. World Vision CEO, Tim Costello, experienced this first hand when he joined the team for the 2011 Run Melbourne and raised over $10,000.
"To have a goal that is bigger than just fitness gives me a greater motivation to succeed" -Tim Costello, World Vision CEO
