Race Report 2007
The 2007 ING New York City Marathon took place on 4th November 2007.
The 38th ING New York City Marathon started on Staten Island in dry and sunny conditions and took a route through the famous boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan before finishing in Central Park. In the Men’s race, 2007 Flora London Marathon winner Martin Lel fought off Morocco’s Abderrahim Goumri near the finish to triumph in 2.09.04. Hendrick Ramaala, who won the ING New York City Marathon in 2004, finished behind them in third.
In the Women’s race, 2004 winner Paula Radcliffe was on course to set a new course record pace after reaching halfway in 1:10:40, but slowed in the later stages. However, the 33-year-old world-record holder shook off Ethiopia’s Gete Wami to win the race in 2:23:09, while two-time defending champion Jelena Prokopcuka gained third place in 2:26:13.
