Welcome to RNIB
Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) is the UK's leading charity helping anyone with a sight problem. Our staff and volunteers work to empower blind and partially sighted people of all ages and remove the barriers they face as well as preventing sight loss by:
Influencing policy makers through our campaign work
Providing expertise and support services, Talking Books and a wide range of products and training alongside imaginative and practical solutions to everyday challenges
Encouraging direct involvement of blind and partially sighted people in RNIB's work via our membership scheme
A closer look at what we do
RNIB Helpline - a dedicated service providing information and support to anyone affected by sight loss, enabling users direct access to our specialist services. Our expert staff handle around 40,000 calls a year and are the first stop for queries from eye health to welfare rights
RNIB Talking Books Service - a lifeline for people with sight loss to carry on reading. Our flagship service has issued over 75 million audio books to people with sight problems across the UK since it was launched in 1935
Education Centres - enable us to help children in local schools by training their teachers and providing equipment and specialist expertise. In turn ensuring that blind and partially sighted children have the same access to learning as sighted children
Work Matters Campaign - highlights that three out of four blind and partially sighted people of working age are not in work. RNIB's employment services ensure that adults with sight problems get the best employment opportunities to enable them to achieve their full potential
RNIB Campaigns - aim to eliminate avoidable sight loss by raising awareness of the importance of regular eye tests, as well as bringing issues surrounding sight loss into the spotlight, such as treatment for Age related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and challenging the government to grant a higher rate of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for those with sight loss
