Train one, save many
Every athlete knows that regular training is essential to keep them at the peak of their performance at every event. The RNLI's volunteer crew members also know how important training is.
The skills our crew members develop from regular and ongoing training, both in the classroom and on the water, are essential to both them and those they are called to rescue. And with only one in ten of our crew members coming from a professional maritime background, training is vital.
High quality training doesn't come cheap - the annual training cost for just one crew member is around £1,000/€1,400.
The RNLI's Train one, save many campaign aims to raise £10M/€14M over five years towards the cost of this essential training and to raise public awareness of the tremendous effort our crews put in, week after week, to ensure they are fit and able to meet the challenge of saving lives at sea.
Everything raised by runners in the London and overseas marathons will go directly to the Train one, save many campaign. And when you're training for these events, you'll be helping to train RNLI crew members to rescue 21 people every day.
