Virgin London Marathon

25th April 2010

‘The last 100 yards is worth every early morning, every blister and every penny raised’ Trevor LaFleche, Team RNLI 2008

Flora London Marathon The Virgin London Marathon is one of the biggest annual fundraising events of 2010 and we would like to invite you to be part of it! Whether you want to set a personal best, or are up for an amazing challenge, join Team RNLI for an unforgettable experience!

Why run for the RNLI?
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea – our lifeboats provide a ring of safety around the coast of the UK and RoI, and on the River Thames in London, rescuing on average 21 people a day. Every year it costs the RNLI over £1,200 to keep each of our 4,300 volunteer lifeboat crew trained and ready for action. By running for the RNLI in the Virgin London Marathon 2010, you will help turn our brave volunteers into lifesavers. How do I join Team RNLI? The RNLI has a limited number of guaranteed Golden Bond charity places in the Virgin London Marathon – the application process is now open and will close in January 2010. With an RNLI guaranteed place, we ask runners to raise a minimum of £2100 in sponsorship and in return we will provide top-notch fundraising and training support! Click on the link below to register your interest, and we’ll email you the application pack. Once we have received a completed form, we will contact you regarding a place on the team.

If you get your own place in the marathon, we’d love to have you on board! Please let us know you have a ballot place by calling
020 7620 7400 or emailing events_gl@rnli.org.uk and we’ll post out a fundraising pack with lots of info on training and fundraising – we just ask that you raise as much as you can for the RNLI.

What support do runners get?
Team RNLI members will receive support from the moment they sign up to Race Day – and beyond! We’ll provide you with:

  • A fundraising pack, full of information about the RNLI, training and fundraising
  • A Team RNLI training T-Shirt and running vest for Race Day
  • Professional advice from Team RNLI’s trainer
  • Weekly updates from the events team in the lead up to Race Day
  • Dedicated cheering points along the course on Race Day
  • A chance to visit a lifeboat station
  • A chance to join the RNLI Race Day reception, with food, showers and massages for all runners!

“For 1 day a year, everyone in London comes together and supports you 100%. The atmosphere is electric! Whether it’s your 1st or 21st marathon, the RNLI work hard to support you all the way.”
Louisa Maund, Team RNLI 2008.
