Canterbury Oast Trust – The Home of The Rare Breeds Centre
Providing opportunities for people with learning disabilities
Canterbury Oast Trust was established in 1985 by a group of parents concerned about the welfare of their children, all of whom had learning disabilities. The Trust is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.
The Trust is based in Kent and provides 24 hour Residential Care and Community Support Services for people living independently. The Trust offers individual programmes for personal development, training and work experience for 90 adults and 150 day service users with learning or physical disability from Kent and East Sussex.
In the Trust we believe that people with a disability should have the same opportunities as everyone else to enjoy a rich quality of life, both as individuals and as members of the community. They should have a valued role within their community and deserve opportunities for self-fulfilment and independence.
Much of the work done by the Trust brings residents into contact with the general public; this interaction helps to break down barriers and foster a greater understanding of disability.
Many of the initiatives started by the Trust have been copied by other care organisations, thus enabling the Trust to be recognised as a centre for excellence for people with learning or physical disability.
The South of England Rare Breeds Centre was set up by the Trust and is now one of the most popular tourist attractions in the south east, whilst at the same time raising money for the Trust.
Please consider running in support of Canterbury Oast Trust, together we can help make a difference to the lives of so many people
Thank You
