Flora London Marathon 2009

Pingu stays with the JDRF Team for another year! Another special year for JDRF's marathon team as Pingu (the loveable penguin from the Antarctic) will continue to be JDRF's Team Mascot for the 2009 Flora London Marathon.
If you're only ever going to do one marathon, it has to be London! The 26.2 mile marathon starts in Greenwich and finishes at The Mall, central London. Over 35,000 runners participate - among them a 140 strong team of JDRF 'Team Pingu' runners.
The online ballot is now closed and the results will be announced in October 2008. If you are one of the lucky ones to get a ballot place, please join JDRF Team Pingu. We will provide you with lots of support and encouragement.
You can also apply for one of our golden bond places; runners joining JDRF Team Pingu will benefit from all the support that JDRF and Pingu can give, including:
- JDRF 'Team Pingu' Runners Pack - containing sponsorship forms, information on the Charity and practical tips to maximise the effectiveness of your training and fundraising efforts.
- Information on how to create your own on-line sponsor page.
- Invitation to the Celebrity Pasta Party the night before the race, where you can 'carbo-load' in comfort.
- JDRF supporter zone at mile 22.5 with the loudest, wildest cheerers on route!
- Recovery venue for marathon day, complete with massage and refreshments.
- Our monthly newsletter, Marathon Matters, will keep runners up to date with their team mates’ endeavors helping to motivate them through the winter months, along with some hints and tips from the team mascot, Pingu.
- Post marathon thank you/awards ceremony.
