About Marie Curie Cancer Care and the
Flora London Marathon

The Flora London Marathon is one of life’s great challenges, and there are so many reasons to take part. Perhaps you’re looking for the personal challenge of a lifetime, or maybe you’ve had a family member or friend affected by cancer.

Last year our runners raised over £335,000. Whatever your motivation, the cheering crowds will drive you on as you pound the streets of London - past the capitals icons.

One of the best ways of enjoying the marathon is to join our team of Daffodil Runners. We’ll look after you from start to finish, supporting you in both your training and fundraising, and you’ll know that with every mile you cover you’ll be helping to support the care of thousands of people and their families across the UK who are living with cancer.

How to apply

The Flora London Marathon 2009 Ballot will open on Sunday 13th April 2008.

You can apply for a place online at www.london-marathon.co.uk

If you have already applied for a place, once you have been accepted and want to run with the Daffodil Team, contact us and we’ll send you a free Running Kit.

If you want to double your chances of getting a place in the Flora London Marathon please read on.

We have a limited number of Charity Gold Bond places for the marathon which are highly sought after. Priority is given to those who we feel will be able to really make the most of this opportunity, can confidently raise £2,000 and have also applied to the Flora London Marathon Ballot.

If you wish to apply for one of our charity places, please complete a downloadable application form and send it to us as quickly as possible. We will let you know as soon as possible if we can give you a Marie Curie Gold Bond Place.

We ask every Gold Bond Runner to commit to raise a minimum of £2,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care. These places are very much in demand so be quick, they will go fast.

Either way we would love for you to join the Daffodil Running Team and in return we’ll support you every step of the way.

What you get as a Daffodil Team Runner

Once you have registered as a Daffodil Runner, you will receive your free Runner’s Kit - which will help you get the most out of your marathon.  Your kit will include:

  • A fundraising pack full of useful hints and tips, plus support from your local Marie Curie Cancer Care Fundraiser
  • A Training Guide including hints on setting running goals, stretching, running logs and lots more

  • Online runners forum, exclusive to members of the Daffodil Team, giving you an opportunity to speak with fellow runners and share training tips and fundraising ideas
  • Daffodil Team running vest so that we can spot you in the crowd
  • Daffodil deely bopper and transfer to decorate yourself on the day
  • A Daffodil Team goody bag
  • Information on how to use online fundraising to help you hit your target
  • Loud and enthusiastic support from our Daffodil Cheering Squads at key stages around the course
  • One of the best post-marathon receptions available. Close to the finish line, you’ll be able to have a shower, soothing leg massage, refreshments and rest your aching limbs
