One of the 5 World Major Events
The BMW Berlin Marathon comprises one of the five World Marathon Majors series; along with London, New York, Boston and Chicago.
What is the BMW Berlin Marathon?
The BMW Berlin Marathon is one of the largest, fastest and most popular marathons in the world. More than 40,000 marathoners take part in the race annually. The course is flat and fast and many people set personal bests. A total of seven world records have also been achieved on the course since the race started in 1974.
The course itself is a loop that starts and finishes by one of the country’s most famous landmarks: the Brandenburg Gate. The race passes other famous sights to, such as the Reichstag and Beliner Dom.
The attractive course is also littered with talented musicians; around 60 bands play along the route, which creates a fantastic race atmosphere. The race also attracts nearly one million spectators. Typically the race is held in September.
How do you get a place in the BMW Berlin Marathon?
Runners can enter using the online entry system. Entries close when the participation limit of 40,000 is reached. In 2011 entries closed in February.
Run for charity in the BMW Berlin Marathon
There are two ways that you can run for charity. If you have your own entry in the event you should contact the charity of your choice and let them know you would like to help them.
For those without their own entry, there is another option. All of the charities listed on the Beijing Marathon site have their own entries and in return for a pre-agreed amount of sponsorship they may offer you a place. However they are likely to receive far more enquiries than they have entries. To contact a charity go to the charity listings. Go to the BMW Berlin Top Events charity listings for more details.
