What is the Big Sur International Marathon?
Just 4,500 runners participate in the race which sells out in less than a month and is known for its challenging hilly terrain, live music (including a grand piano on Bixby Bridge), and overall breath-taking scenery.
Marathon & Beyond described the marathon like this: "Of course we know that perfection is impossible, but once you've experienced the Big Sur International Marathon, you'll agree that it comes pretty darn close."
As the biggest rural marathons in the world you would expect the course to be stunning; and the Big Sur International Marathon certainly delivers. The route takes you along Highway One, and follows the Pacific Ocean coastline. The temperature ranges between 50°- 60° F, whilst the average humidity: 30 - 50 percent. Except for 2011, the race is always held on the last Sunday in April.
Every runner gets a range of goods; including a t-shirt with an original design, a ceramic, unique medallion, race transport, live music, plus food and drink at the start and finish of the race.

Run for charity in the Big Sur International Marathon
There are two ways that you can run for charity. If you have your own entry in the event you should contact the charity of your choice and let them know you would like to help them.
For those without their own entry, there is another option. All of the charities listed on the Big Sur Marathon site have their own entries and in return for a pre-agreed amount of sponsorship they may offer you a place.
