About Me

I was 12 when I started riding racehorses and had my first race ride as an amateur in 1982. I turned professional in 1984 and during my career won the Grand National twice as well as completing the ‘Big Three following wins in the Gold Cup and Champion Hurdle. I was Champion Jockey three times (1993-95). A neck injury forced me to retire in 1999, since which I have written several books including my autobiography Obsessed and was awarded the MBE in 1993. I like racing cars, and have taken part in several charity challenges, including conquering the South Pole and walking 1000 miles in 1000 hours. I also help guide many horse treks around the world.
