Does this sound like anyone you know? She worked for the government; got into the sport from a swimming background; burst onto the scene with a podium finish in her first Ironman as a pro; quit her job to focus on the sport; started to work with Brett Sutton and has been a world-beater ever since. OK, she might not be quite as outgoing or as well-known as Chrissie Wellington, but when it comes to racing, Caroline Steffen is the real deal.

The fastest Ironman finisher in history is set to provide the toughest test for Cameron Brown's 10 year reign at the Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Ironman New Zealand in Taupo on 3 March. Belgium's Marino Vanhoenacker set the triathlon world in a spin when he set a new best time for an official Ironman of 7:45:50 in Austria last year, which took five minutes off the previous best time established 14 years previous. (The full-distance record is held by Andreas Raelert.)

While Ironman fans will know John and Judy Collins as the founders of the Ironman triathlon back in 1978, many of us might not be aware that they now spend much of the year in Panama. The two will be on hand to witness the first official Ironman race in the country - Ironman 70.3 Panama takes place on Sunday, February 12, 2012. Judy Collins shares some of her Panama triathlon memories with us here at Ironman.com.

After a successful inaugural event last year, the Ironman team is hard at work preparing for the second Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas, to be held in The Woodlands on May 19, 2012. This early season event gives athletes a chance to head south to warmer water, as well as miles of uncongested roads for safe cycling and running.

Rasmus Henning burst onto the Ironman scene in 2009, fresh off his second appearance at the Olympic Games (eighth in Beijing in 2008, 7th in Athens in 2004) with an impressive win at Ironman China and an even more impressive Kona debut - fifth, despite a broken hand. Since then he's had two tough years in Kona, but those results aside, Henning will no-doubt be considered a contender for the win when he lines up at the Ironman World Championship in October.

Recent meetings between World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Messick, and International Triathlon Union (ITU) President, Marisol Casado, have opened the door to the possibility that the Ironman organization might "in future organize the ITU's own long-distance world championships on its behalf," according to a release distributed by the ITU today.

Ironman racing resumes this weekend in South America after a five-week holiday break from competition. The historic Agosuper Ironman 70.3 Pucon takes place on Sunday in the picturesque Cautín Province, located in central Chile, with its splendid views of Chile's most active volcano, Villarica. Not only does the region present a postcard view at every turn, the race has deep roots in triathlon history. It has seen a virtual "who's who" of Ironman champions and legends of the sport. That history, coupled with the territory's beauty has established this race as a "must do" for many!

It comes as no surprise that as we head into our first Ironman event of 2012 (Ironman 70.3 Pucon) Craig Alexander sits atop both the Kona and 70.3 pro rankings, while Leanda Cave's impressive October and November that included a third place finish in Kona along with wins at Ironman 70.3 Miami and Ironman Arizona has moved her to the top of the women's KPR. Thanks to her win at the Marine Corps' Ironman World Championship 70.3, Melissa Rollinson leads the way in the women's 70.3 PR.

It's hard to miss Patrick Evoe out on the race course - his orange-colored Little Caesar's uniform certainly stands out - but these days the 34-year-old from Austin, Texas is making waves in the triathlon world because of his performance rather than endorsement deals. Ironman caught up with an elated Evoe just minutes after his second runner-up Ironman finish of 2011 in Cozumel, where he capped off an eight-year-long journey that has seen Evoe develop from a 50-pound-overweight triathlon newbie to a world-class Ironman pro.
