Alive - 1993

An inspiring sports movie?

Alive is an entertaining and semi-inspiring motion picture to get you back into the exercise groove or spur you into fitness action.

Directed by Frank Marshall

Stars: Ethan Hawke, Vincent Spano, Josh Hamilton, Bruce Ramsay

Alive in a nutshell: Based on true event in 1972, this is the story of a Uruguayan college rugby team whose plane crashes in the middle of the Andes mountains. Showing an immense will to survive, they are forced to do anything (even eating the dead) to make it through the ordeal.

Why Alive is inspirational: While some people may be uncomfortable with the subject matter, it’s an example of the immense power of the human spirit and people’s will to survive. The two characters who head off in search of help go through so much that it will simply make your own training aims pale into insignificance.

Fact about Alive: At the end of the movie there are 17 survivors when in fact there were only 16 survivors of the crash that the movie is based on – one having been killed by an avalanche.
