Competing for Britain in a triathlon
How to take part in a triathlon on behalf of Great Britain
The World Triathlon Championships are held each year over different distances. Although a base of elite athletes will compete, a huge base of age group triathletes can also take part on behalf of the Great British team. The Great Britain Age Group team is one of the largest to attend each of the triathlon World Championships and you could take part on their behalf, if you meet the criteria and can afford to pay for triathlon race entry, travel and accommodation.
Criteria required to compete for Great Britain
1. You must be a current BTA full race license holder (day license not valid) before sending in an application for the GB team.
2. You must abide by the BTA rules, by-laws and doping control regulations as shown on the BTA website and in the BTA handbook.
3. You must be a British passport holder.
You must also qualify for some events, as there are 18 places within each age group. Qualifying races are held around the UK with a few places available at each race. You get selected for the team on times and performance throughout the year.
As a member of the British Triathlon Association, you also receive BTA Cycle Insurance and BTA Travel Insurance. Other membership offers include reductions for sporting goods and cheap travel offers.
