Escape to Victory in a nutshell: The plot for Escape To Victory involves a soccer match between the Nazis and a team of Allied prisoners which was intended to raise morale in Germany. However, the POWs use the match as an opportunity to plot their escape.

Why Escape to Victory is inspirational: Even if the acting’s not up to much, the movie’s theme provides the inspiration. Real soccer legends – including Pelé, Osvaldo Ardiles and Bobby Moore – appear in the movie as part of a side that put honor before safety by going back out after half-time, rather than escaping, to try and salvage a game which they’re losing 4-1.

Fact about Escape to Victory: Sylvester Stallone, who plays the goalkeeper for the Allies, reportedly wanted to score the winning goal in the movie – but was allowed to face a crucial late penalty instead.
