But how do you achieve this glamorous, feminine look? We share the tips and tricks to help you look Bollywood glam and have an envious figure to rival your favourite Bollywood starlets.
High fibre diet
By increasing your fibre intake through consumption of whole grains, fruit and green leafy vegetables your digestive tract will be in much better condition, which should have a knock-on effect to the appearance of your stomach. Filling your diet with these fibre-rich foods aims to reduce bloating, giving you a flat and bulge-free stomach. In particular, whole grains will help you out as they help to lower levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) and insulin in the body, which both encourage fat to be stored around the tummy.
Aim to drink approximately 1.2 litres of water each day and your skin will reap the benefits. There’s no point having a toned bod unless your skin is in great, glowing condition, so get drinking! If you find water a little dull, try adding a small amount of pure juices to water such as orange or cranberry. Coconut water is also a great hydrator and is also a source of minerals and potassium. Water is also great for combatting water retention, which could lead to a bloated stomach.
Lunges & squats
A sure fire way to achieve a pert behind and strong yet slender thighs is to do sets of lunges and squats each day. Done properly, these exercises will also engage your core muscles meaning your waist and stomach will benefit too. You can increase the intensity by incorporating dumbbells to your squat or lunge to enjoy full body toning. Try to carry out these exercises as slowly as possible to really engage your muscles and burn more calories.
Dancing, particularly Bollywood dance, is a great form of aerobic exercise to burn calories and improve fitness levels. It will help strengthen your stomach muscles as often Bollywood dance routines engage the core. Due to the fast-paced dance moves and rhythm you will also find your calf muscles become more toned as well as your upper arms as they are incorporated in a lot in routines. You don’t have to be in your twenties to have an enviable figure, as Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty proves so well. To achieve her toned physique try practising yoga on a daily basis to strengthen core muscles and improve posture, which automatically makes you appear slimmer. Common poses such as ‘downward dog’ and ‘boat pose’ combat problem areas such as the waist and hips, which are key elements to tone for a Bollywood figure.
To nip in your waist like a Bollywood starlet’s, try lying on your back and lifting your legs to form a ‘v’ shape in the air. Place fingertips to each temple then contract your abdominal muscles and reach up towards your left foot with your right hand, raising your right shoulder off the floor. Pause, then lower slowly to the ground and repeat this action on the opposite side. Do 12 repetitions for three sets, resting for 30 seconds in between each set.
